DETAILS: On this date at 2:17 PM, West Windsor Police Department Communications detailed Patrol and Traffic units to a single-car crash on U.S. Route 1 South, located south of Carnegie Center Blvd. The vehicle that crashed was reported to have struck a pole and was in the roadway.
Units arrived to find a black 2019 Honda CR-V with heavy front-end damage, disabled in the roadway. Preliminary investigation found that the Honda was traveling south on U.S. Route 1 when it veered off of the roadway and struck a telephone pole. After hitting the pole, the Honda spun back onto the highway where it came to final rest blocking two lanes of travel. The driver and the front seat passenger (Passenger #1) suffered minor injuries. The rear seat passenger (Passenger #2) suffered serious injuries and received immediate treatment from West Windsor Division of Fire and Emergency Services and paramedics from Capital Health. Due to her injuries, Passenger #2 was transported to the Trauma Center at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in critical condition. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, however, there is the possibility that the driver of the Honda experienced a medical episode which caused him to lose consciousness while driving. He was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center by the Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad.
The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Serious Collision Response Team responded to the scene to assist with the ongoing investigation. The identities of the driver and passengers are being withheld pending investigation. Anyone with pertinent information directly related to this collision is asked to contact Traffic Officer E.
