Narrative:
On January 17, 2024, deputies with Camarillo Patrol Services responded to a graffiti vandalism that occurred on the 700 block of Paseo Camarillo in the City of Camarillo. Upon arrival, deputies located the vandalism, but the suspects had fled the area.

The patrol deputy recognized the graffiti was gang related and relayed the information to Camarillo Special Enforcement Unit (SEU) detectives.

SEU detectives took over the investigation and were able to identify the two juvenile suspects who committed the vandalism.  Detectives learned there were numerous vandalisms associated to the suspects. Detectives authored search warrants for the search of the juveniles and their residences located in the City of Camarillo and the City of Oxnard.

On February 8, 2024, detectives served a search warrant at one suspect’s residence located on the 2300 Block of the San Ysidro Street in the City of Camarillo. During the execution of the search warrant, one of the juvenile suspects was taken into custody.  Detectives located evidence related to the vandalism during a search of the residence.

On February 16, 2024, detectives served an additional search warrant at the second juvenile suspect’s residence located on the 2600 Block of Wagon Wheel Road in the City of Oxnard. The juvenile was not located, but additional evidence pertaining to the vandalism was located.

On February 20, 2024, detectives located the second juvenile suspect in the City of Oxnard and placed him under arrest for the vandalism.

The juveniles were arrested and booked into the Ventura County Juvenile Justice Center for violations of PC 594(b) – Felony Vandalism and PC 182(a) – Conspiracy to Commit a Crime.  The juveniles were released with future court dates.

These crimes have cost the city thousands of dollars to repair, which is a burden on the taxpayers.  The cost to repair the graffiti diverts taxpayer funds from going to more beneficial programs.

The Camarillo Special Enforcement Unit is comprised of a sergeant and four detectives, whose focus is assisting patrol services with the investigation of various crimes including, but not limited to, the investigation of illegal firearms, gang related crimes, and graffiti vandalism.
