IMPD Homicide Detectives Make Arrest in Tuesday Murder Investigation

INDIANAPOLIS- IMPD Detectives arrested 27-year-old Alexander Cross for his alleged role in a homicide that occurred in the 100 block of S. Belmont Avenue.

On Tuesday, February 27, 2024, just before 7:00 p.m., IMPD Southwest District officers responded to the 100 block of S. Belmont Avenue on a report of a person shot. Officers arrived and located an adult male inside with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound(s). Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (IEMS) arrived, and the victim was unfortunately pronounced deceased at the scene.
IMPD homicide detectives responded to the scene to begin the investigation. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to identify and collect potential forensic evidence. The Marion County Coroner’s Office will determine the exact manner and cause of death. The Marion County Coroner’s Officer (MCCO) identified the victim as 40-year-old Randy White.

Detectives continued to investigate and based on various evidence, including cooperative community members, were able to identify Cross as the alleged suspect. On Thursday, February 29, 2024, the IMPD Violent Crimes Unit located and apprehended Cross without further incident. Cross was subsequently arrested for murder.

An arrest is merely an accusation. The suspect should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO) will make the final charging decision.
