Wilmington Police have arrested a man on drug charges.
On March 1, at approximately 8:38 a.m., members of the Traffic Unit attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop in the 2000 block of North Market Street, at which time the vehicle fled the area. A short time later, the vehicle was located in the 300 block of East 13th Street. Responding officers observed the suspect in the 200 block of East 14th Street, at which time the suspect fled on foot. Following a brief foot pursuit, 51-year-old Shawn Garrett was taken into custody without incident. Police recovered 173 grams of cocaine, and $1,430.
Garrett has been charged with the following offenses in addition to traffic violations:
- Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Deliver in Tier 3 Quantity
- Reckless Endangering (Second Degree) – Two Counts
- Resisting Arrest
- Disregarding a Police Officer’s Signal
- Hindering Prosecution
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $51,000 cash-only bail.
