Catalytic Converter Thieves Escape Capture
On 03/06/2024 at approx. 0340 hours, Officers responded to the 2700 block of Licia Place reference a catalytic converter theft in progress. The suspect vehicle described as a black Chevy Camaro, was seen fleeing the location prior to police arrival. Utilizing the Flock Safety System, Officers located a black Chevy Camaro within the vicinity. The license plate captured on the Camaro actually returned to a different vehicle make.
At approx 0411 hours, Officers located the aforementioned vehicle n/b on Erringer from Royal. The vehicle ran the red light at Los Angles Ave in an attempt to evade the police. A pursuit was then initiated. The vehicle fled on to e/b 118 Freeway from Erringer. A spike strip was attempted at Tapo Canyon with negative results. An LAPD airship was requested but was not available. A Ventura County Sheriff airship was requested but an hour eta was given. The suspect vehicle blacked out and reached speeds up to 120 -130 mph. For the safety of the community and the Officers involved, the pursuit was terminated as it approached Topanga Cyn. LAPD and CHP were advised that the vehicle was last seen entering their jurisdiction.
