Crime Blotter for the Week of February 25, 2024 – March 2, 2024

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of February 25, 2024 – March 2, 2024.        
 
February 25, 2024

  • Burglary (Commercial):
1500 Duarte Road (City of Hope). Between February 24, 2024 5 PM and February 25, 2024 2 PM, suspect(s) unknown entered the location by unknown means and stole a gray MacBook and an “Asis” laptop. The loss was approximately $4,000. No surveillance video is available.
 
February 26, 2024
  • Burglary (Commercial):
1144 Huntington Drive (EZ Smoke Shop). On February 26, 2024 at 6:18 AM, a male hispanic adult 5’05”, 150 lbs. wearing a black jacket and black sweatpants and a female hispanic 5”03” 145 lbs. wearing a blue Dodger shirt and gray shorts, arrived at the location in a silver 2018 Ford Fusion with a license plate 9HUM853. The male suspect proceeded to the roof where he began to cut a hole to enter the location, while the female stood by as a look out. While attempting to commit burglary, officers observed the crime in progress and detained the suspects. Both suspects were arrested. 
 
February 27, 2024
  • Aggravated Assault:
2400 block of Crossroads Court. On February 27, 2024 at 7 PM, the victim and her son were at the location arguing over the son’s request for money. The suspect began to get aggressive when the victim refused to give him money. The suspect grabbed his mother by the neck with both hands and began to strangle her. The victim managed to escape her son’s grasp, where she fled to the neighbor’s house where she called 911. Deputies arrived where the suspect was placed on a medical hold. Assault charges pending the suspect's release from the medical hold.  
 
  • Burglary (Vehicle):
800 Block of Junipero Drive. Between February 26, 2024 8 PM and February 27, 2024 7:15 AM, suspect(s) unknown shattered the front passenger side window to the victim’s locked vehicle, a 2013 Toyota Yaris that was parked at the location. The suspect(s) stole his electronic key programmer, his lock pick set and a toolbox that he left in plain view. The loss was approximately $3,350. No surveillance video is available.

March 1, 2024
  • Burglary (Commercial):
2110 Huntington Drive (Route 66 Car Wash). On March 1, 2024 at 6:45 AM, a male Hispanic adult wearing a black jacket, tan pants and a black “LA Dodger” hat was observed on video surveillance shattering the side window to the location. The suspect entered the location and went directly to the register where he stole the register box containing US currency. The loss was approximately $800.   
 
  • Grand Theft:
1193 Huntington Drive (Smart and Final). On March 1, 2024 at 8:45 AM, suspect(s) unknown stole the victim's tailgate to his parked vehicle, a gray 2011 Toyota Tacoma. The loss was approximately $3,500. No surveillance video is available.
 
  • Grand Theft (Shoplifting):
1600 Mountain Avenue (Walmart). On March 1, 2024 at 8:40 PM, suspect unknown, a male hispanic adult wearing a white head band, dark sunglasses, white face mask, blue jacket and blue pants, entered the location and went to the electronics department. The suspect spoke with an employee to see an “Acer Nitro” laptop. The employee handed the laptop to the suspects, who fled the location out the rear exit on foot and out of view. The value of the stolen property was approximately $1,102. Surveillance video is available.
 
March 02, 2024
  • Robbery (Armed):
1802 Huntington Drive (7-11). On March 2, 2024 at 8:18 PM, suspects unknown, two male hispanic adults wearing black face masks, black beanies, dark colored hoodies, and dark colored pants, walked into the business, approached the store clerk while pointing handguns at him, and demanded the money from the register. Fearing for his life, the clerk gave the money to the suspects. The suspects additionally stole the money from a customer who was inside the location. The suspects fled the location on foot east on Huntington drive and out of view. The loss was approximately $550. Surveillance video is available.

  • Use Strong Passwords - Use different user ID/password combinations for other accounts and avoid writing them down. Make the passwords more complicated by combining letters, numbers, special characters (minimum of 10 characters in total) and changing them regularly.

  • Be Social-Media Savvy - Make sure your social networking profiles (E.G. Facebook, Twitter) are set to private. Be careful about what information you post online.
