Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé requests the public’s assistance in identifying the below-pictured suspect in connection with an armed business robbery that occurred on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
At approximately 10:46 p.m., a man walked into a business at Broadway near Bloomfield Place carrying a shopping bag. The suspect approached the register and pulled an assault rifle out of the bag and announced a robbery. The clerk went to the backroom, filled the bag with other bags, and gave them to suspect, who fled heading south on Broadway after entering the driver’s side of a dark-colored SUV.
Detectives investigating this incident describe the suspect as an African American male, 6-ft. tall and 240 pounds. He was wearing a black bubble jacket, red hooded sweatshirt, red hat, blue jeans, and red sneakers.
