Press Release: Shooting Suspect Arrested for Murder

On March 5, 2024, at approximately 9:45 a.m., members from the Fremont Police Department Patrol Division and Special Operations Division responded to the area of Stevenson Boulevard and Albrae Street to investigate a reported shooting.  Information revealed two vehicles were involved; one had fled the scene, and the other appeared to be involved in an accident.

Officers immediately noticed the driver was suffering from gunshot wounds, and had life threatening injuries.  Officers quickly provided medical aid and summoned an ambulance to transport the victim to a nearby trauma center.  On March 9, 2024, the victim succumbed to his injuries.

Based on the initial investigation, a potential suspect was quickly identified as Sylvester Carver (25 years old, resident of Fremont).  Grounded upon the evidence obtained throughout the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Carver.

Special Operations Division and Crime Reduction Unit members worked tirelessly to locate Carver.  On March 13, 2024, the investigation led detectives to the 5000 block of Hartnett Avenue in Richmond, California.  Carver was positively identified coming out of a known associate’s residence.  The Fremont Police Department’s Special Response Team responded to the location to serve the arrest warrant for Carver and the search warrant for the residence.

Around 7:15 p.m., Carver and other associates were contacted in a vehicle as they were leaving the residence.  Carver was subsequently taken into custody without incident.   Carver was arrested for Penal Code 187(a) – Murder and booked into Santa Rita Jail.

This case was presented to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office and Carver was charged with Penal Code 187(a) - Murder, Penal Code 664/187(a) - Attempted murder, and two counts of Penal Code 246 - Willful discharge of a firearm into an occupied vehicle.
