Incident Summary
 
On 03/15/2024 at approximately 1:25 PM, the Petaluma Police Department Dispatch Center received a call from a 17-year-old male juvenile who reported he was attacked by an unknown subject while on a basketball court in the 100 block of Fairgrounds Drive in Petaluma. The victim stated the incident had occurred approximately 45 minutes prior to being able to contact the police.
 
The victim reported an unknown male subject jumped a chain link fence and slashed him with a broken piece of glass, that was partially wrapped in duct tape to act as a handle.
 
The victim stated the attack was unprovoked and did not know who the suspect was. He was described as a white male adult, older in age, had long grey or black hair, and was wearing an orange SF Giants hat, green flannel shirt and blue jeans.
 
Officers responded to the area where the assault reportedly occurred and processed the scene for any evidence and/or leads.
 
The victim sustained a minor injury that did not require any medical attention.
 
The Petaluma Police Department will be increasing patrols in the area in an effort to deter any further such activities.
 
The Petaluma Police Department is actively seeking the public’s assistance in locating any possible witnesses to the incident.
