Threats Investigation to School Campus

Additional Information Update:

The incident in question understandably caused concern among both parents and students. The Simi Valley Police Department (SVPD) wants to assure everyone that we implemented all necessary measures to guarantee the safety of the public and the school before classes began today, March 15, 2024. Before the school day started, SVPD had officers and explosive detection K9s conduct thorough campus searches. These searches did not uncover any dangerous items, and we were satisfied that the campus was secure and safe for the students and faculty to start their day. We are committed to continuing our close collaboration with the Simi Valley Unified School District to ensure that the safety of our students and the public remains our utmost priority within our educational community.

UPDATE: On the morning of March 15, 2024, at approximately 11:00 AM, Simi Valley Police Department School Resource Officers conducted a follow up investigation at Valley View Middle School in reference to the threats received less than 48 hours earlier. During their investigation, they were able to identify a suspect in the case, and ultimately take that subject into custody without incident. The juvenile suspect is a student at the school and was lodged at the Ventura County Juvenile Detention Facility.

The Simi Valley Police Department would like to thank the community and the students of Valley View Middle School for utilizing "See Something, Say Something", which ultimately contributed to the identification of the suspect and arrest.

On 03/13/2024 at approximately 11:00 pm the Simi Valley Police Department received a call from a member of the Simi Valley Unified School District advising they had just received a threat via their “We-Tip” platform. The threat involved an unknown individual sending a message via “We-Tip” claiming that they intended on bringing a “bomb” onto Valley View Middle School’s campus on Friday (03/15/2024).

School Resource Officers from the Simi Valley Police Department immediately began investigating the incident and the investigation is currently ongoing.

Today, school staff, along with School Resource Officers completely swept the Valley View Middle School campus and did not find any evidence of concern. This will be repeated tomorrow as well.
School staff is on high alert, and they are familiar with safety procedures should they see anything out of sorts. Out of an abundance of caution, for today and tomorrow, there will also be an increased presence in and around the campus by the Simi Valley Police Department. Please understand that you may not always see officers openly patrolling the campus, however they are around.

The Simi Valley Police Department as well as the Simi Valley Unified School District take every threat seriously and this case is no different. There have been recent trends regarding these types of threats via “tip lines,” in fact, yesterday, Taft High School in the San Fernando Valley received a threat, which was later found to be a hoax. We want to minimize any potential panic and repeat that we are taking this seriously.

As a reminder, please remember that the most effective tool we have to combat the threat of danger in our schools is “See Something, Say Something.” No issue is too minor to report. If you or your children have concerns, please report them.

If anyone has any information about the individual or individuals responsible for the threat, please contact Officer Torres at 805-583-6950.
