Press Release: Aggravated Assault Investigation

SUNNYVALE, California - On Friday, March 15th, 2024, at approximately 3:25 p.m., Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety Officers responded to the area of Lawrence Expressway and Arques Ave. on the report of several male subjects fighting in the intersection. Upon arrival, officers located two adult male victims with stab wounds. Officers immediately provided medical aid to the victims, who were later transported by ambulance to a local area hospital for treatment. Both victims are currently in stable condition.

One suspect, identified as Luis Alavarez, was taken into custody at the scene. The second suspect, Oscar Urbizo, had fled the scene prior to our officer’s arrival but was later arrested in Redwood City without incident. Both men were arrested for various charges, including Assault With a Deadly Weapon, and have been booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.

The preliminary investigation suggest that the incident may have stemmed from a “road rage” incident. This case remains under investigation and anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Detective G. Limon at (408) 730-7110. There is no ongoing threat to the community, and all suspects are in custody.
