Occurred Time: 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.

Charges: 459 PC
Beginning around 6:00 p.m. on 3/16/24, the Petaluma Police Department began receiving multiple reports of “window smash” auto burglaries throughout various areas of the city including The Outlet Mall, St. Vincent’s High School, Capri Creek Apartments, Sheraton Hotel, etc. In total, over (30) thirty vehicles were targeted throughout the night with various items of personal property stolen. Officers have attempted to locate and contact all affected victims. The Petaluma Police Department is also aware that neighboring jurisdictions have experienced similar sprees.
The Petaluma Police Department is kindly requesting assistance from the community for any surveillance footage which might have captured these incidents or any suspicious activity within the past 24-hours. The community can aid this process in the future by participating in the department’s security camera registry program. The voluntary program allows community members to register their home or business security cameras. Officers then use the information to contact those community members whose cameras may have captured potential evidence. For more information about the program please visit our website. - Remember to remove any personal belongings or items of value from plain sight to deter potential thieves.
- Park in well-lit areas.
- Always lock your car doors.
- Consider using anti-theft devices such as steering wheel locks or car alarms.
- If possible, park in designated parking areas with security cameras.
- Be aware of your surroundings and trust your instincts - if something doesn't feel right, find a safer place to park.
