Community Alert: Beware of Phone Scams Posing as the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office

Dear Lincoln County Residents,

We have been alerted to a concerning wave of scam calls where individuals, impersonating officials from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, are contacting residents claiming they owe money for fines.

These scammers are using sophisticated methods to make it appear as though the call is coming from our official phone numbers. They are threatening arrest if the supposed fines are not paid immediately.

Please be aware of the following critical information:

• The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, or any legitimate law enforcement agency, will NEVER call you to demand payment for fines or fees over the phone.
• We do not ask for payment via gift cards, wire transfers, or any unconventional payment methods. This is a common tactic used by scammers.
• Do not provide personal information, such as Social Security numbers, bank account details, or credit card numbers, over the phone to unsolicited callers.

If you receive such a call, please follow these steps:
1. Do not engage. Hang up immediately.
2. Do not call back the number. It may be spoofed to look like a legitimate number.
3. Spread the word. Inform your friends and family members about this scam to prevent them from falling victim.
