Milltown Office of Emergency Management: Weather Alert 3/22-3/23

Widespread moderate to heavy rain is expected for our region beginning on Friday night through Saturday evening.

  1. A widespread 1 to 3+ inches of rainfall is forecast from Friday night through Saturday evening, with the highest amounts forecast across the Coastal Plain. Near and southeast of I-95, widespread rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches are likely (60 - 80%). There may be a localized corridor of amounts near 4 inches in this area as well. Even if the rain falls over a longer duration, this would be enough rain to cause roadway flooding, especially in urbanized, poor drainage, and low-lying areas. There is a slight risk (2 of 4) for excessive rainfall leading to flooding.
  2. The excessive rainfall could lead to some river and stream flooding as well. There is a 20 to 30% risk that the Millstone River, Passaic River, and Rancocas Creek could reach minor flood stage this weekend.
  3. Strong northerly winds are forecast to develop late Saturday into Saturday night. Peak wind gusts near 35-45 mph may result in some tree damage leading to isolated power outages.
  4. Some spotty minor tidal flooding may occur around the times of high tide this weekend. This may be exacerbated by the excessive rainfall runoff near tidal waterways and tributaries. Additionally, some areas of minor tidal flooding and beach erosion may occur Sunday into early next week as the departing storm churns offshore producing long period swells and rough surf.

Please observe and follow any road closures and detours that may be set up in the event of local flooding. DO NOT try to drive or walk through flooded roadways.

In the event of a power outage due to falling trees or wires, contact the Milltown Police Department to report the damage 732-828-1100.

Please do not call the police department to ask when power will be restored. Communications staff may be busy with the storm and will not be able to provide a timeline on power restoration. Questions regarding repair timelines can be directed to the Milltown Utility Department 732-828-2100 ext. 137

Please monitor local, state, and national weather reports for updates on these storms.
