Heavy Rain & Strong Winds Friday PM into Saturday
We are expecting a strong storm to impact NJ for the first part of this weekend, bringing up to 4" of heavy rain to the coast and strong winds up to 45mph. The rain is expected to begin Friday night and continue into Saturday evening, with widespread totals of 2-3" around the state and up to 4" along the shore. In preparation for the storm, the Department of Public Works has been clearing storm drains of leaves and will be checking the water levels of our lakes and lowering them as needed in accordance with DEP regulations.
If you plan to be on the road Friday night or Saturday, prepare extra travel time and use caution as roadway flooding is possible in low-lying areas. Strong gusty winds have the potential to cause power outages, so be sure to secure any loose outdoor items, keep your electronics charged, report power outages to JCP&L, and call 9-1-1 if you observe downed power lines or trees fallen across roadways. Please remember to #TurnAroundDontDrown and do not drive through flooded roads.
