On Wednesday, March 20th, 2024, at approximately 11:59 pm, an officer from the Petaluma Police Department was on patrol when he noticed a vehicle displaying a false registration tab. Upon further research, he determined the licenses plate was not assigned to that specific vehicle. The officer conducted a traffic stop in the 5000 Block of Montero Way. The driver was contacted and identified as Todd Shipley (60-year-old resident of Sebastopol). Due to the expired registration (since 2013), the officer towed the vehicle in accordance with the appropriate tow authority.
Officers conducted an inventory search of Shipley’s vehicle which yielded narcotics under the driver’s seat. The narcotics located included multiple individual packages of methamphetamine. During a search of Shipley’s person, additional small packages of methamphetamine were located that appeared to be packaged for sale. The total package weight of the entire methamphetamine was 90.8 grams. Additionally, Shipley was in possession of drug paraphernalia, misappropriated debit cards and California identification cards. Shipley was ultimately arrested on multiple violations, which included possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) for sale, possession of drug paraphernalia and misappropriation of property. Shipley was booked at the Sonoma County Jail.
