Special Weather Statement until 02:00PM Saturday
A strong cold front associated with a Pacific low pressure system will move through the state beginning tonight across northwestern Nevada, reaching White Pine county by Saturday afternoon. A mix of rain and snow along with gusty winds will accompany this cold front. Rain could transition to snow quickly above 5500 feet through the day Saturday. Expect reductions in visibility as the transition occurs but impacts will be minimal during the day as temperatures will remain above freezing until Saturday night. Impacts from snow on roadways will be most likely after midnight Saturday into early Sunday morning before sunrise primarily across White Pine county. Some slick and slushy spots on elevated roadways and summits are possible with conditions improving during the day on Sunday with only lingering light snow shower activity. Wind gusts Saturday will be in the 20-25 mph range in valleys mainly from the west. Opportunities for snow showers will persist through early next week but impacts will be limited, especially during the day. Another, potentially more impactful storm system will arrive for the middle of next week. Visit www.weather.gov/elko for the latest weather information.
