DETAILS: On Sunday March 24, at 11:14pm, officers were checking a local store reference an alarm call. A citizen flagged down the officers and asked them to check a residence near 6300 Leigh for a family dispute. As officers arrived, the suspect was leaving the scene in a vehicle. He attempted to run from officers and crashed into a home in the 2700 block of Reis. There was a small child in the bedroom the vehicle entered. The child was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.
As officers were exiting their vehicles, the suspect shot at police. Officers returned fire and struck the suspect. No officers were injured. The suspect was taken by ambulance to an area hospital where he died from his injuries.
The suspect is identified as Jesus Rodriguez, 01/07/1994. The Amarillo PD Homicide Unit is investigating.
