Thousand Oaks Detectives utilized DNA Evidence to reopen a cold case burglary investigation that ultimately led to the identification and arrest of the suspect. In April of 2023, Thousand Oaks Patrol Deputies received a report of a residential burglary that occurred on Charterwood Court in the city of Thousand Oaks. After learning of the incident, the East County Investigations Career Criminal Unit began an investigation into the matter. Detectives conducted an extensive investigation. However, the case was ultimately closed in July of 2023 after all leads had been exhausted. The suspect remained unidentified. On February 29, 2024, (S) Luis Alonso Parada was arrested after being identified as the suspect of a “hot prowl” residential burglary that occurred in the same area of Charterwood Court. Detectives recognized similarities between the two cases and reopened the closed burglary case. Through the use of DNA evidence obtained during both burglary investigations, detectives established Parada as the suspect for the burglary case from 2023. On March 27, 2024, Detectives arrested Parada for one count of PC 459 – Residential Burglary with his bail set at $50,000.00. Parada remained in custody at Todd Road Jail in Santa Paula, CA for his previous burglary arrest in February of this year. Parada remains in custody at Todd Road Jail with his arraignment scheduled for March 29th, 2024, at 1:30pm at the Ventura Superior Court. |
