Advisory

Water shutoff for businesses in Coolidge/Ramblewood Business Park, starts at 5:30 p.m. today for emergency valve replacement.

The East Lansing Department of Public Works (DPW) will conduct an emergency water shut off to properties in the business park at Coolidge Road and Ramblewood Drive on the City’s west side beginning at 5:30 p.m. today (Friday, March 29) due to a leak from a valve that was set to be replaced tomorrow.

All the affected businesses were notified of the situation prior to the emergency shutoff. It is expected that by starting at 5:30 p.m., none of the businesses in the complex will be impacted by the shutoff.

The water valve replacement is part of a larger project along Coolidge Road. The valves involved in tonight’s emergency shutoff were scheduled to be replaced last weekend. However, extreme weather conditions resulted in the project being postponed by one week. When the crew began excavating the site today to prepare for the replacement, the shifting of the soil exposed weaknesses.

To prevent risks to the City’s utility infrastructure and road, possibly resulting in extended outages for residents in the area, the work is being undertaken tonight rather than waiting until tomorrow as originally planned.

Residents who have questions are encouraged to reach out to DPW by calling the main line at (517) 337-9459. If there are unexpected issues, information will be communicated to community members via Nixle.
