Sheriff Richard J. Behnke, reports that on 03/30/2024 at approximately 1544 hours his office was called to investigate a personal injury crash at the intersection of Gumwood Rd and E. Bertrand Rd., in Milton Township, Cass County, Michigan.

Investigation shows, a vehicle driven by Marshall Smith of Sauk Village, IL, was traveling south bound on Gumwood Rd. Smith failed to maintain his lane, crossed the center line and struck another vehicle head-on. The second vehicle was driven by Jess Gose of Mishawaka, IN., who was traveling northbound on Gumwood Rd.
 
Smith was transported by ambulance to South Bend Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash. Gose along with his passengers, DanYelle Watkins and a juvenile, both of Mishawaka, IN, were also transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital for their injuries sustained in the crash. This crash remains under investigation.

All involved parties wore Seatbelts. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor.
