Advisory

Independence Day Fireworks Advisory: Thursday, July 4

Please be advised that a fireworks display will take place for twenty minutes near the island's beachside beginning at approximately 8:45 p.m. on Thursday, July 4th.

Spectators are encouraged to safely view the fireworks at one of the following public parking areas:

  • Oceanview Beach Park
  • Great Dunes Beach Park
  • Jekyll Island Convention Center parking lot

Spectators are asked to keep out of the dunes.

The fireworks launch location has been relocated 300 feet west onto the bike path area due to the presence of sea turtle nests near the original site on the beach, combined with high tide during the scheduled launch time. However, viewers from the beach will not experience any impact due to this slight modification.

During a portion of the day and evening, the bike path south of the Jekyll Island Club Resort Beach Pavilion will be accessible but detoured to ensure the necessary safety zone for fireworks setup from approximately 11:00 a.m. - 11:30 p.m.

Additionally, Beachview Drive north of the mini golf course to the south of the Jekyll Island Club Resort Beach Pavilion will experience a temporary closure shortly before and after the fireworks show until clearance is given by the fireworks vendor (approximately 10-20 minutes before and after the show). Detours during this period will be directed via Shell Road and Capt. Wylly to Riverview.

All owners of domestic pets in the area are reminded that fireworks might distress animals and are encouraged to ensure pets are safe and secure on their property.

The daily entry fee for Thursday, July 4, will be increased (+$5) for this special event. Annual passes will be exempt.

As a state park, personal fireworks are strictly prohibited on Jekyll Island. This includes all types of consumer fireworks discharged in any public spaces or private homes. All ignitable fireworks are illegal, including sparklers. Commercial firework permits are available to licensed fireworks companies and must be obtained from the Jekyll Island Authority in advance.

If you witness personal fireworks in use, please contact the Georgia State Patrol at the non-emergency number: 912-635-2303. For more information on the Independence Day fireworks, please visit www.jekyllisland.com/events.
