Offices Closed Friday Volunteer to Serve on a Village Committee

The Village Offices will be closed all day on Friday, April 5 in observance of the Village's Spring Fling holiday. The secure drop box in the Village Hall parking lot is back open now that the Spring Election is over.
----------
Are you interested in giving back to your community? Then consider volunteering to serve on a Village Committee! Each year following the Spring Election, some committee member terms expire and the Trustee committee chairs are often moved to other committees. The Village President will be working on those committee assignments over the next couple of weeks before the April 16 Board Meeting. If you’re interested, now is the time to submit your interest via our Committee Volunteer Application:

The Village currently has fourteen committees, commission and boards which are listed on the Village website at www.shorewood-hills.org/committees. These committees provide an important service to the community by making recommendations to the Board of Trustees on various issues including, but not limited to, long-term capital planning, zoning regulations, debt issuances, park/natural area improvements/maintenance, marina operations, and recreational programming. The time commitment isn’t significant. Committees typically only meet once a month (a few only meet every other month or as needed) and usually only last about 60-90 minutes, though you will need prep time to review meeting materials in advance of the meeting.

Most committee seats have a three-year term with at least two seats coming open each year. In addition to the committee terms that are expiring in April, we currently have vacancies on the Public Works and Pool Committees. The Village President is responsible for selecting residents to appoint to these committees, subject to confirmation by the Board of Trustees. Each year, the President reviews the vacancies and terms that are expiring and then prepares an appointments list to present to the Board at the reorganizational meeting that occurs on the third Tuesday of April, which is the date mandated by state statutes for the seating of the new Board.

While we take applications throughout the year to maintain a list of interested volunteers in the event a mid-term vacancy occurs, the annual appointment process is typically when most appointments are made, so if you are interested, please do not hesitate to submit an application. Interested residents are encouraged to reach out to Village President John Imes directly at [email protected] to express their interest, as well as to ask questions about serving on a committee. Residents should submit their application forms to Village Administrator Sharon Eveland at [email protected]. She can also answer questions about serving on committees.
