EARTHQUAKE
Our area experienced the strongest earthquake since 1884 at 10:19 AM. The center was located 2 miles from Tewksbury, New Jersey in Hunterdon County. The earthquake registered 4.8 on the Richter Scale and rattled homes and buildings in town.
An earthquake is a sudden, rapid shaking of the ground caused by the shifting of rocks deep underneath the earth’s surface.
Expect aftershocks hours, days, or weeks after today's quake. I have been in contact with our Office of Emergency Management and they recommend checking all infrastructure, including parking garages, for damage.
Contact 9-1-1 for any emergencies. Visit ready.gov for additional information on earthquake preparedness and precautions.
