Don't Be Fooled 5K for Special Olympics Tomorrow - watch for road closures & pedestrians downtown to Georgian Place Saturday morning

On Saturday, April 6, 2024, the Huntley Police Department will be hosting the 3rd Annual “Don’t Be Fooled…by a Disability” 5K to benefit the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois.

Road closures near the starting line will begin at 7:30 a.m.  All intersections along the route will close as runners and walkers pass.  See attached map for the route.  While we strive to keep the disruption to residents and motorists at a minimum, the necessary closures will be made to ensure the safety of the event participants.

If you are planning to travel in this area on Saturday morning, please be aware of the closures, be alert for increased pedestrian activity and consider taking a different route if possible.

Registration for the 5K starts at 7:45 a.m., followed by a group stretch and warm up led by sponsor 1st Choice Physical Therapy at 8:30 a.m., a Torch Lighting Ceremony at 8:50 a.m., and the run will begin at 9:00 a.m.  This will be a fun run/walk and will start and end at the Huntley Town Square (on Coral St. between Church St. and Woodstock St.).  Special Olympic Athletes will award the runners at the finish line with a foolish treat.

A water station will be set up midway into the run and at the finish line. Day of registration is $30.00 for 13 and over and $20.00 for 12 and under.  All runners will receive a t-shirt and a foolish treat.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the single largest year-round fundraising vehicle benefiting Special Olympics Illinois.  Special Olympics is a nonprofit organization providing year-round sports training and competition in 18 sports for over 21,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities and nearly 9,000 young athletes ages 2-7 with and without intellectual disabilities.  Special Olympics transforms the lives of people with intellectual disabilities through training and competition.
