Precautionary Boil Water Advisory

ISSUANCE DATE:               Friday, April 5, 2024

LOCATIONS AFFECTED:   4900, 5000, 5100 Blocks of Indianapolis Blvd. and Vicinity

EAST CHICAGO, INDIANA – Effective Saturday, April 6, 2024 commencing at 7am, the East Chicago Water Department will be experiencing a loss and drop in pressure as a result of emergency water main and valve repairs in your area.  Due to the loss of pressure within the distribution system dropping below 20 pounds per square inch (PSI), a PRECAUTIONARY BOIL WATER ADVISORY is being issued for customers within the vicinity effective Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 7am and until further notice.  The advisory will remain in effect until water samples are collected and analyzed to confirm that the water quality has not been affected and the water is safe to drink, meeting regulatory drinking water standards and requirements. The sampling and testing process typically takes 24-48 hours, or as required. While this advisory is in effect, it is recommended that customers boil tap water vigorously for at least five (5) minutes prior to using it for cooking, food preparation, drinking, making ice, etc. Please continue to boil all cooking and drinking water until you are notified that it is no longer necessary.  Residents and customers are requested to share this information with those who may not have received this message directly.

Customers will be notified when the precautionary boil water advisory has been lifted in the same manner that this notice has been issued.  Customers under a precautionary boil water advisory can resume normal water usage when the advisory is lifted without taking additional measures. If you experience cloudiness or discolored water, it is recommended that you run your faucets for a few minutes until the water runs clear.

The City apologizes for the inconvenience and requests your cooperation.  Should you have any questions or require further information, please contact the East Chicago Water Department at your convenience at (219) 391-8469 or via email at [email protected]/[email protected].  For updates, please visit the City's website at www.eastchicago.com/Water Department.
