Newark Police Department Crime Blotter Mar 25 - 31, 2024
The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.
MONDAY, MARCH 25, 2024:
1:40 AM Officer McCuin was dispatched to the 38800 block of Cedar Boulevard concerning a vehicle collision. A 23-year-old male from Newark was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail for driving under the influence.
5:57 AM Officer Soto arrived at the intersection of Cherry Street and Thornton Avenue for a welfare check of a person in the middle of the road. A 20-year-old male from Newark was arrested for public intoxication and transported to Santa Rita Jail.
6:32 AM Officer Williams recovered a stolen vehicle on the 8200 block of Enterprise Drive.
7:32 AM Officer Williams investigated a vehicle theft occurring at the intersection of Sycamore Street and Graham Avenue. On 3/27/2024, Officer Cervantes recovered this vehicle on the 36800 block of Cherry Street.
7:38 AM Officer Frentescu investigated a vehicle theft on the 5500 block of Forbes Drive. A few hours later, the vehicle was recovered by another agency.
9:09 AM Officer Frentescu was dispatched to a vehicle theft occurring at the 6400 block of Lafayette Avenue. Two hours later, the vehicle was recovered by a neighboring agency.
7:06 PM Officer McCuin was on routine patrol in the area of Cedar Boulevard and Balentine Drive and recognized a subject with an outstanding felony warrant. The 24-year old male, from Newark, was arrested and transported to Santa Rita Jail for identity theft and the warrant.
7:44 PM Officer Cervantes was dispatched to the 5800 block of Jarvis Avenue regarding a theft. A 31-year-old male from San Francisco was discovered with an outstanding warrant and released with a citation.
8:53 PM Officer Soto was dispatched to the area of Blackburn and Chapman Drive for a disturbance. Upon arrival, a 27-year old unsheltered male was contacted and determined to be intoxicated and unable to care for himself. He was arrested and transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
TUESDAY, MARCH 26, 2024:
7:03 AM Officer Williams investigated a vehicle theft occurring on the 6600 block of Clark Avenue.
7:10 AM Officer Jackman investigated a vehicle theft occurring on the 6500 block of Picardy Place.
8:17 AM Officer S. Torres investigated a vehicle theft occurring on the 6300 block of Mirabeau Drive.
9:15 AM Officer Williams investigated and recovered a vehicle theft in the area of Argonne Street and Rochelle Avenue.
10:33 AM Officer Jackman investigated a vehicle burglary at Willow Street and Bayshores Avenue. Point of entry was determined through the driver’s side window.
3:28 PM Officer Williams was dispatched to a traffic collision on the 6200 block of Mayhews Landing Road. A 51-year-old male from Newark was arrested for driving under influence, hit-and-run, outstanding warrants and driving unlicensed. He was transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 27, 2024:
6:49 AM Officer Kim investigated a vehicle burglary on the 5400 block of Thornton Avenue. Point of entry was from the passenger window. No loss is reported at this time.
7:38 AM Officer Lara investigated a vehicle burglary occurring in the 35400 block of Dumbarton Court. Entry was determined to be a back window and a reported loss of tools.
8:02 AM Officers investigated multiple vehicle burglaries at the 34900 block of Newark Boulevard. Various personal equipment items were reported stolen.
8:41 AM Officer Orozco investigated a vehicle theft on the 38000 block of Myoporum Place.
5:21 PM Officer Orozco was dispatched to a report of a suspicious person on the 37000 block of Magnolia Street. A 42-year-old unsheltered male from Newark was arrested and transported to Santa Rita Jail for loitering and peeping.
8:04 PM Officer Dale investigated a vehicle theft in the area of Cedar Boulevard and Joaquin Murieta Avenue. The vehicle was later recovered hours later by a neighboring agency.
THURSDAY, MARCH 28, 2024:
2:18 AM Officer C. Torres observed a vehicle make an unsafe turn across multiple lanes on Cedar Boulevard and Thornton Avenue. During the traffic stop, a 34-year-old male from Arizona was discovered under the influence and transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
7:01 AM Officer Kim was dispatched to a vehicle burglary on the 5900 block of Mowry Avenue. The rear driver’s window was determined to be the point of entry and loss included industrial equipment.
8:12 AM Officer Kim investigated a vehicle theft on the 36800 block of Chery Street.
8:45 AM Officer Kim investigated a vehicle theft on the 36400 block of Bridgepointe Drive.
6:10 PM CSO Mora was dispatched to a vehicle burglary on the 36800 block of Newark Boulevard. Entry was from the passenger window and no known loss was reported.
FRIDAY, MARCH 29, 2024:
2:00 AM Officer Kapu was on the 5000 block of Chelsea Drive and observed a vehicle parked in the handicap area. A 21-year-old female from Newark was discovered violating a court order and transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
6:11 AM Officer C. Torres was dispatched to Cherry Street and Dairy Avenue and investigated a vehicle theft.
8:45 AM Officer Lara was dispatched to the 37000 block of Locust Street for a disturbance. A 34-year-old male from Newark was arrested and transported to Santa Rita Jail for public intoxication.
8:43 PM Officer Swadener conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with broken taillights at Ruschin Drive and Souza Avenue. A 30-year-old male from Tracy was arrested and transported to Santa Rita Jail for narcotics paraphernalia along with an outstanding warrant. The second occupant, a 38-year-old male from Newark, was cited and released for narcotics paraphernalia possession.
10:03 PM Officer Stevenson was dispatched to the 3100 block of Newpark Mall Road for a vehicle burglary. Entry was from breaking into the rear driver’s window and no known loss was reported.
SATURDAY, MARCH 30, 2024:
12:31 AM Officer Kapu was conducting traffic enforcement on Stevenson Boulevard and Balentine Drive and was interrupted by a 25-year-old male from Newark. The person was arrested and transported to Santa Rita Jail for obstruction and violation of probation terms.
2:56 AM Officer Stevenson was dispatched to the 5600 block of John Muir Drive regarding an unwanted guest. A 42-year-old unsheltered male was arrested and transported to Santa Rita Jail for trespassing.
6:55 AM Officer Townsend investigated a vehicle burglary at Balentine Drive and Newpark Mall Road. Entry was from a window smash and loss included various personal items.
9:00 AM Officer Frentescu investigated a vehicle burglary occurring at the 3100 block of Newpark Mall Road. Entry was from breaking the passenger window and loss included electronics.
9:30 AM Officer Jackman investigated a vehicle burglary at the 8200 block of Gateway Boulevard. Entry was determined through breaking the rear window with unknown loss.
10:44 AM Officer Williams investigated a vehicle burglary at the 39800 block of Cedar Boulevard. Entry was from the rear window, reported loss are electronics.
4:25 PM CSO Vuong was dispatched to the 36500 block of Darvon Street for a vehicle burglary. Entry was from the passenger window. Loss included personal items.
6:32 PM Officers responded to a disturbance on the 35400 block of Newark Boulevard. A 28-year-old male from San Mateo was arrested for battery, felony warrants and transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
SUNDAY, MARCH 31, 2024:
1:43 AM Officer C. Torres investigated a vehicle burglary in the 35100 block of Blackburn Drive. No known loss was reported at this time.
6:38 AM Officer Williams located and recovered a stolen vehicle near Bellhaven Avenue and Bellhaven Place.
8:24 AM Officer Jackman was dispatched to a vehicle theft on the 39100 block of Cedar Boulevard. Approximately 20 hours later, Officer Williams located and recovered the vehicle near Joaquin Murieta Avenue and Cherry Street.
8:55 AM Officer Frentescu was dispatched and investigated a vandalism incident on the 5000 block of Chelsea Drive.
3:21 PM Officer C. Torres investigated a vehicle theft from the 7000 block of Wells Avenue. One hour later, Officer C. Torres located and recovered the vehicle on Locust Street.
8:58 PM Officer Herrera investigated a vehicle collision at Thornton Avenue and Newark Boulevard. A 42-year-old male from Newark was arrested for driving under the influence and transported to Santa Rita Jail.
