Newark Police Department Crime Blotter April 1-7, 2024

The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community. 
 
MONDAY, APRIL 1, 2024: 
8:06 AM Officer Williams was dispatched to 35600 block of Haley Street for a vehicle burglary. Point of entry was determined from the driver side window, loss included documentation.
 
9:22 AM Officer Townsend investigated a stolen vehicle near Elm Street & Wells Avenue. An 18-year-old male from Oakland was arrested on a felony warrant and transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
 
1:22 PM Officer Williams responded to the area of Sycamore Street & Carter Avenue for a disturbance. A 29-year-old male from Calexico was arrested for corporal injury and transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
 
3:18 PM Officer Piquette arrived on the 6000 block of Newpark Mall Road regarding a vehicle burglary. Entry was gained by piercing device, loss included work tools and a defibrillator.
 
3:32 PM Officer Taylor was dispatched to a vehicle burglary on the 6300 block of Potrero Drive. Entry through window smash, the loss is currently unknown.
 
10:33 PM Officer Soto responded to the 35800 block of Argonne Street for a vehicle burglary. Entry gained from window smash; loss is a household appliance.
 
TUESDAY, APRIL 2, 2024: 
7:23 AM Officer Kim investigated an attempted vehicle theft and burglary on the 5900 block of Mowry Avenue. Entry was from forcing open a lock. Reported damage to the ignition and loss of electronic tools.
 
9:21 AM Officer Jackman investigated multiple vehicle burglaries on the 36500 block of Mulberry Street. It was determined entry was forced, resulting in the loss of industrial tools, equipment, and plumbing gear.
 
9:42 AM Officer Orozco was dispatched to the 8900 block of Seawind Way concerning an assault. A 34-year-old male from Woodland was arrested for battery and transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
 
11:35 AM Officer Williams arrived at the 36600 block of Cedar Boulevard for a visible fire. Upon investigation, a 36-year-old male from Newark was arrested for arson and transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
 
5:27 PM Officer Pacheco responded to the 39900 block of Balentine Drive for the recovery of a stolen vehicle from a neighboring agency.
 
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 3, 2024: 
1:56 AM Officer McCuin was on routine patrol near Cedar Boulevard & Mowry Avenue, while observing a vehicle making an unsafe turn with expired registration. A traffic stop was initiated, it was determined a 41-year-old male from Fremont was arrested for possession of narcotics, identity theft, and transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
 
5:30 AM Officer Smith arrived at the 6100 block of Newpark Mall Road to investigate multiple vehicle burglaries. Entry occurred via lock cutting and reported loss are power tools.
 
8:03 AM Officer Orozco conducted an investigation of a stolen vehicle near Montcalm Avenue & Christine Street.
 
10:28 AM Officer Orozco was dispatched to the 35200 block of Newark Boulevard for a stolen vehicle. Upon investigation, a 33-year-old male from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle and transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
 
11:20 AM Officer Kim conducted vehicle theft investigation that occurred near Zumilda Avenue & Christine Street.
 
12:30 PM Officer Pacheco investigated a stolen vehicle on the 3600 block of Joaquin Murieta Avenue.
 
1:57 PM Officer Pacheco was dispatched to the 37000 block of Cedar Boulevard for a suspicious person. After conducting a pedestrian stop, a 51-year-old female from Newark was arrested for mail theft and released on scene with a citation.
 
9:19 PM CSO Mora investigated a vehicle burglary occurring on the 3100 block of Newpark Mall Road. Point of access was determined from the rear passenger window and reported loss are contents in multiple backpacks.
 
THURSDAY, APRIL 4, 2024: 
1:26 AM Officer McCuin observed a vehicle driving on railroad property on the 37400 block of Sycamore Street. Upon investigation, a 31-year-old unsheltered male from Newark was arrested on charges of driving without a license and possession of narcotics with intent for sale. The subject was transported and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
3:47 AM Officer Smith responded to a vehicle parked on the 6100 block of Thornton Avenue. After discovering the vehicle had incorrect plates, it was determined the vehicle was stolen and subsequently recovered.
 
7:39 PM CSO Mora investigated multiple vehicle burglaries occurring at the 3100 block of Newpark Mall Road. Entry into all vehicles were by shattering the windows. Loss involved multiple backpacks, personal possessions included cellphones, electronics and documents.
 
8:24 PM Officer C. Torres investigated a vehicle burglary on the 5600 block of Mowry Avenue. Entry occurred from breaking the window and reported loss were the contents in a backpack.
 
FRIDAY, APRIL 5, 2024: 
7:22 AM CSO Vuong responded to the 38500 block of Rockrose Court to investigate a stolen vehicle.
 
10:05 AM Officer Kim responded to the 35400 block of Newark Boulevard for a suspicious person. A 25-year-old unsheltered male was arrested for indecent exposure and transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
 
12:42 PM Officer Lara recovered a stolen vehicle near Mayhews Landing Road & Dijon Drive.
 
4:26 PM CSO Mora was dispatched to the 7400 block of Mowry Avenue to investigate a stolen vehicle.

11:29 PM While in the area of Magnolia & Baine Avenues, Officer C. Torres observed a pedestrian on a bicycle without visible lights. A pedestrian stop was initiated and a 46-year-old unsheltered male from Newark was in possession of narcotics along with an outstanding warrant, resulting in arrest by transport to Santa Rita Jail.
 
SATURDAY, APRIL 6, 2024: 
12:31 AM Officer Stevenson arrived in the 6200 block of Thornton Avenue for a suspicious person in the area. A 53-year old transient male was contacted and was in possession of narcotics. He was subsequently arrested and transported to Santa Rita Jail.

2:18 PM Officer Piquette responded to the 36000 block of Dalewood Drive regarding an assault. It was determined a 48-year-old male from Newark was responsible for assault with a deadly weapon. The subject was arrested and transported to Santa Rita Jail.
 
9:54 PM Officer Soto was on patrol near Thornton Avenue & Cabrillo Drive and performed a traffic stop. A 20-year-old male from Fremont was discovered with an outstanding warrant and arrested, then transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
 
SUNDAY, APRIL 7, 2024: 
6:59 AM Officer Williams responded to a traffic collision near the intersection of Joaquin Murieta Avenue & Cedar Boulevard. It was determined one party, a 35-year-old male from Newark was under the influence and arrested. He was transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
