Yucca Valley Man Arrested on Weapons Charge After Deputies Responded to Report of Shots Heard

LOCATION: Twentynine Palms Highway and Peterson Road, Twentynine Palms
SUSPECT(S): Ramon Rocha, 33-year-old male resident of Yucca Valley

SUMMARY:
On Sunday, April 7, 2024, at approximately 11:21 p.m., Morongo Basin Station deputies responded to a report of shots heard in the area of Twentynine Palms Highway and Peterson Road in Twentynine Palms. Soon after deputies arrived, they observed a subject shooting in the desert. Deputies contacted Ramon Rocha and immediately noticed Rocha was in possession of, and shooting, an illegal assault rifle. Furthermore, Rocha was in possession of three additional short-barrelled assault rifles. Two of the three assault rifles were unserialized, commonly referred to as ghost guns.
Deputies conducted a follow-up search warrant at Rocha's residence in Yucca Valley, which resulted in the seizure of four additional firearms. One of the four firearms was found to be stolen.
In addition, Morongo Basin Station deputies recovered approximately 500 rounds of green tip rifle-caliber ammunition. This "unreasonably dangerous ammunition" is rated to penetrate soft and hard body armor and steel.
