Update: Chevron flaring ongoing - no action needed

Flaring at the Chevron refinery still ongoing. Chevron reports SO2 in the form of gas being released in the air. This is still a Level 1 notification. There is no health impact in the community.

At 12:41pm today, 4/09/2024, Chevron issued a CWS Level 1 Notification for ongoing flaring at the Richmond refinery due to an upset at a process unit. Chevron reports they are currently investigating the issue.
Based on Contra Costa Health's 3-tier hazmat severity system, CWS Level 1 notifications have no public health impacts and require no action from the community.
