Suspect Arrested in Connection with Recent Jack in the Box Stabbing
On Sunday, March 31, at around 2:16 AM, officers responded to a report of a stabbing at the Jack in the Box on S. Bascom. The victim, who had been waiting for his order, was suddenly stabbed from behind by an unidentified male who immediately fled the scene. Despite sustaining critical injuries, the victim managed to call 9-1-1. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital and was later stabilized.
Campbell officers initiated a comprehensive search for the suspect, alerted neighboring agencies of the suspect's description and launched a thorough investigation.
By April 2, the Campbell Police Department received notification that the suspect, Martin Kerschbaumer, a 55-year-old resident of San Jose, had been apprehended by a neighboring agency for an unrelated crime committed on April 1.
Subsequent to this development, Campbell officers executed a search warrant at Kerschbaumer's residence, where they recovered the knife used in the Jack in the Box stabbing, along with clothing matching that worn by the suspect captured in surveillance footage. Kerschbaumer has since been charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
"Campbell PD's investigators and officers have been instrumental in ensuring this dangerous individual remains off the streets of Campbell," stated Chief Gary Berg. "Their unwavering commitment not only brings closure to this case but also enhances the safety of the community."
