Ventura County Sheriff’s Technical Communications Specialist Amber Anderson has been selected as the 2024 Public Safety Dispatcher of the Year. This award is presented to the outstanding dispatcher for their exemplary work and contributions to public safety and the residents of Ventura County. Amber has been a dispatcher with the Sheriff’s Office since March of 2020 but prior to that had years of experience with the Oxnard Police Department.
Amber has been with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office since March of 2020 having coming to us from working seven years at Oxnard Police dispatch. She was chosen by her peers and supervisors due to her hard work, friendly and calm demeanor, and dedication to the unit. Amber is incredibly reliable and continues to amaze her colleagues when it comes to her ability to stay relaxed during critical incidents and for the amazing service she provides to the residents of Ventura County.
Sheriff dispatchers answer, assess, and refer 9-1-1 calls, and business calls that come into the Sheriff’s Office. They are responsible for dispatching and coordinating patrol response to calls for service and at times, responsible for up to 70 patrol deputies in the field. Dispatchers are among the first responders to emergency incidents and are expected to remain calm, professional, and proficient at all times. Amber’s co-workers can attest that she promotes all of the above attributes while working her shift. She is a very reliable employee and it’s a pleasure having her in the Sheriff’s Communications Center.
