PC 273A(A): CHILD ABUSE WITH POSSIBILITY OF GREAT BODILY INJURY
LOCATION: Bear Valley Rd./ Quinnault Rd., Apple Valley
SUSPECT: Stephen Barrientos, 23 years-old, resident of Hesperia
SUMMARY: On Monday, April 8, 2024, at 9:49 p.m., Sergeant S. Nobles observed a vehicle on Bear Valley Road swerving between several lanes of traffic and driving on the dirt shoulder of the roadway.
A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver of the vehicle, Stephen Barrientos, was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol. Barrientos had his two children, ages 3-years-old and
5-years-old, in the back seat of the vehicle with no child safety seats and no seat belts.
Stephen Barrientos was arrested and booked at the High Desert Detention Center. He is currently being held in lieu of $70,000.00 bail. The children were turned over to the custody of a family member.
