Fatal Crash on Route 1
South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka and Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone announced today that a fatal crash is under investigation at Route 1 and Ridge Road intersection. Chief Hayducka said, "This is a tragic day, as 3 young adults have lost their lives in this horrific crash. To the parents, family, and friends our hearts go out to you. Please keep everyone involved in your thoughts and prayers tonight."
The preliminary investigations shows that on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 9:36 A.M., South Brunswick Police, fire and EMS responded to a crash at Route 1 and Ridge Road. The crash involved a tractor-trailer that had struck a Sprinter van at Ridge Road and Route 1. The Sprinter van then collided with two other vehicles. The Sprinter van and the tractor-trailer traveled another approximately 100 yards north of the intersection and caught fire.
Three people have been pronounced deceased at the scene, their identity is being withheld till notification is made to next of kin.
The investigation is active and continuing.
Route 1 remains closed and is not expected to reopen till 10 pm.
