Police Arrest Phillipsburg Man Wanted for Aggravated Assault on Police Officers
Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé reports the arrest of Khalil Cuttino, 31, of Phillipsburg, who was being sought for an aggravated assault on two Police Officers in an incident that occurred on Friday, April 12, 2024.
At approximately 5:09 p.m. Police responded to the 300 block of Clinton Avenue on a call of a male with a handgun. When the officers detained a man who fit the description of the suspect, a large crowd gathered. A male in the crowd struck two officers with closed fists, injuring them both, before fleeing the scene.
The two injured officers were transported to University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and are reportedly in stable condition.
Detectives investigating this incident identified Cuttino as a suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest. He was apprehended today and faces two counts of aggravated assault on police officers and obstruction of the administration of the law.
