Wilmington Police have arrested a man on gun and drug charges.
On June 15, 2023, at approximately 9:45 p.m., members of the Safe Streets Task Force conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of I-95 southbound and the Route 202 Exit. Officers made contact with the driver – 43-year-old Gerald Crooks, who subsequently fled the area in his vehicle. A short time later, officers executed a search warrant in the Unit block of Paul Road, New Castle, DE, and recovered 2,986 grams of marijuana, a 9mm handgun, and a .357 caliber handgun. Police were unable to locate Crooks at this time, and obtained warrants for his arrest.
On April 10, at approximately 9:15 a.m., members of the Safe Streets Task Force were in the 1500 block of West 3rd Street, when they observed Crooks. Officers made contact with Crooks, and took him into custody without incident.
Crooks has been charged with the following offenses in addition to traffic violations:
- Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited – Four Counts
- Receiving a Stolen Firearm – Two Counts
- Possession of a Controlled Substance in Tier 2 Quantity
- Disregarding a Police Officer’s Signal
- Reckless Endangering (Second Degree)
- Resisting Arrest
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $66,000 cash-only bail.
