Newark Police Department Crime Blotter April 8 - 15, 2024
The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.
MONDAY, APRIL 8, 2024:
8:09 AM Officer Williams investigated a vehicle theft near Graham Ave & Magnolia Street.
10:21 AM Officer Williams investigated a vehicle theft near the 39600 block of Cedar Boulevard.
11:58 PM Officer Dale observed a vehicle parked on the middle of the road. Upon investigation, a 52-year-old male from Fremont was arrested and released on a citation for possession of narcotics.
TUESDAY, APRIL 9, 2024:
7:41 AM Officer S. Torres responded to the 37300 block of Cedar Boulevard to investigate a vehicle theft.
7:59 AM Officer Losier was dispatched to a theft in progress on the 39900 block of Cedar Boulevard. A 62-year-old female from Fremont was arrested for shoplifting and an outstanding warrant. She was released on scene with a citation.
3:15 PM Officer Williams investigated a vehicle theft on the 37000 block of Magnolia Street.
4:45 PM Officer Lara responded to the area of Spruce Street & Shorehaven Avenue on report of a disturbance. A 52-year-old unsheltered male from Newark was arrested for violating a court order and transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 10, 2024:
7:27 AM Officer Orozco was dispatched to the 5300 block of Saint Mark Avenue to investigate a vehicle theft.
8:07 AM Officer Kim was dispatched to the 35000 block of Newcastle Court to investigate a vehicle burglary. Entry was from picking the lock, loss included coins, vehicle documents, and various personal items.
8:41 AM Officer Orozco responded to the 36000 block of Port Tidewood Street for a vehicle burglary. It was determined the point of entry was from cutting the locks to the vehicle, loss included various power and electric tools.
THURSDAY, APRIL 11, 2024:
2:20 AM Officer Kapu conducted a pedestrian stop on the area of Newark Boulevard & Mayhew’s Landing Road. He contacted a 44-year-old unsheltered male that had an active felony warrant for his arrest. He was arrested for resisting arrest, battery, possession of concealed knife, narcotics, and subsequently transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
5:48 AM Officer C. Torres investigated a vehicle burglary on the 5900 block of Mowry Avenue. Entry was from the driver side window. Loss included various work and power tools.
8:12 AM Officers responded to the area of Cherry Street & Smith Avenue for a high-risk vehicle stop. A 31-year-old unsheltered male was arrested for driving without a license and transferred to Gilroy Police Department for custody.
11:14 AM Officers observed a vehicle driving with wanton disregard for motorists on the I-680 freeway and arrested a 39-year-old male from Danville for reckless driving and evading police officers.
11:48 AM Officer Lara observed a person lying on the ground at the 3000 block of Newpark Mall Road. The person was determined to be a 42-year-old unsheltered male from Newark in possession of narcotics. He was arrested and transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
2:40 PM Officer Lara investigated a vehicle theft from the 7600 block of Gateway Boulevard.
4:42 PM Officers were dispatched to Edgewater Drive & Norwich Place for a domestic disturbance. A 57-year-old male from Newark was arrested for aggravated injury to an elderly person and transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
7:23 PM Officer Medina responded to the 37600 block of Timber Street for a civil issue. During investigation, a 41-year-old male from Oakland was arrested for an outstanding warrant and released on scene with a citation.
7:30 PM Officer Cervantes was dispatched to investigate a vehicle burglary on the 6800 block of Overlake Place. Entry occurred from breaking the lock, currently no known loss is reported.
FRIDAY, APRIL 12, 2024:
1:18 AM Officer Norvell was dispatched to the 5900 block of Mowry Avenue for a vehicle burglary. Point of entry was from a vehicle window, loss is currently unknown.
5:51 AM Officers responded to Cherry Street & Dairy Avenue for multiple vehicle burglaries. Locks to vehicles and windows were broken into, reporting various losses of laptops and multiple work and power tools taken.
9:15 AM Officer Piquette responded to the 5700 block of Civic Terrace Avenue for a vehicle theft.
1:09 PM Officer Orozco recovered a stolen vehicle on the 6400 block of Central Avenue.
4:11 PM Officers were dispatched to reports of a suspicious person looking into vehicles near Thornton Avenue & Ruschin Drive. A 21-year-old unsheltered male was arrested for resisting arrest and possession of narcotics and transported to Santa Rita Jail.
SATURDAY, APRIL 13, 2024:
7:25 AM Officer Lara investigated a vehicle theft near Newark Boulevard & Dairy Avenue.
12:01 PM Officer Williams investigated a vehicle theft report at the Newark Police Department lobby.
2:42 PM Officers responded to vehicle burglaries in the area of Mowry Avenue and Newpark Mall Road. There were reports of vehicles with windows smashed, with personal backpacks and bags reported missing.
SUNDAY, APRIL 14, 2024:
1:39 AM Officers responded to the 39900 block of Balentine Drive for a vehicle collision. A 38-year-old male from Moreno Valley was arrested for driving under the influence and subsequently transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
3:36 AM Officer C. Torres located a parked vehicle on the 8100 block of Mowry Avenue with a person asleep at the wheel. After investigation, a 29-year-old male from San Jose was arrested for narcotics and transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
11:20 AM Officers responded to the 37200 block of Olive Street for a domestic disturbance. A 28-year-old female from Newark was arrested for domestic violence and transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
12:33 PM Officer Frentescu investigated a vehicle theft on the 36800 block of Cherry Street.
6:08 PM Officer Williams was flagged down at Filbert Street & Enterprise Drive. Upon a records check, a 39-year-old male from Newark had outstanding warrants and was transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
