DATE/TIME: April 12, 2024 / 10:06 p.m.
INCIDENT: PC 273a(a) / Child Endangerment
LOCATION: Highland Avenue and Sterling Avenue, San Bernardino
SUSPECT(S): Alex Sanchez, 21-year-old resident of Highland
VICTIM(S): Confidential
SUMMARY:
On April 12, 2024, while deputies were in the area of Highland Avenue and Sterling Avenue in San Bernardino, they observed approximately 100 vehicles parked in a closed business’ parking lot, and approximately 50 to 100 pedestrians walking around the parking lot.
A black GMC Sierra, later discovered to be driven by Alex Sanchez, was observed intentionally accelerating his vehicle at a high rate of speed. Sanchez turned the tires and intentionally forced the rear tires to lose traction with the ground. This caused the vehicle to spin uncontrollably and placed the surrounding pedestrians in danger.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Sanchez. Sanchez yielded to the lights and sirens, and an investigation was conducted. During the investigation it was discovered Sanchez had performed this dangerous activity with a 3-year-old victim in the rear seat, not restrained by a car seat.
Sanchez was arrested and booked at Central Detention Center for PC 273a(a), Endangerment to a Child. Sanchez is being held on $60,000 bail.
