Investigation Leads to the Arrest of a Cargo Theft Suspect in Fontana

DATE/TIME: March 25, 2024, at approximately 12:22 p.m.

INCIDENT: Grand Theft (Cargo Theft Investigation)

LOCATION: 8300 block of Sultana Avenue, Fontana

SUSPECT(S): Amarveer Johal, 34-year-old resident of Fontana

VICTIM(S): Confidential


SUMMARY: On March 25, 2024, a victim from a business called and reported 30 pallets of electronics taken by a fraudulent shipping company under the name of Sky High Transit LLC. The victim advised a subject claiming to be a driver for the transport company arrived with fraudulent paperwork and was able to leave the business with electronics intended to be shipped to Colorado. Several days later, the company in Colorado contacted the business in Fontana and advised they never received their shipment of electronics. 

Deputy Arroyo from the Fontana Sheriff's Station spoke to the victim from the business in Fontana and began the investigation. Arroyo obtained assistance from Detective Pedersen and developed leads. Pedersen conducted surveillance at a residence located on the 4900 block of River Ash Way in the city of Fontana. He was able to positively identify the driver responsible for the cargo theft as Amarveer Johal. 

On April 17, 2024, investigators from the Fontana Sheriff's Station and California Highway Patrol, served a search warrant at the River Ash Way residence and detained all residents. Amarveer Johal arrived at the location during the service of the search warrant and was taken into custody without incident. Some stolen property was recovered at the residence and returned to the owner. Johal is believed to be responsible for additional fraudulent cargo thefts in the Fontana area.
