Gang Related Arrest
On Tuesday, April 16, 2024, Novato Police Detectives and the Marin County Probation Department checked in with individuals on probation to ensure compliance with the terms of their release from custody.
While responding to a probationer’s home for a compliance check, around 5:00PM, the team was immediately confronted by a family member in an aggressive manner. The person was identified as 21-year-old Manuel Mazariegos. Mazariegos was in possession of brass knuckles and was not responding to officer’s verbal commands. Detectives and Probation Officers attempted to safely de-escalate the situation and arrest Mazariegos, but he resisted and threatened the officers.
After Mazariegos was detained, NPD Detectives located a loaded and concealed Glock firearm. Mazariegos was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail for multiple charges including resisting arrest, violence against officers, possession of brass knuckles, unlawful possession of a firearm and suspicion of committing a felony offense, while out on bail.
To help reduce tensions and violence within our community, the Novato Police Department partners with Marin County Probation, allied agencies, and support organizations. This year, Novato Police has investigated 18 gang-related incidents. Subsequent investigation and enforcement has resulted in several arrests, search warrants, recovered weapons, and positive parental engagement.
