There’s No Excuse for Child Abuse: Fairfield PD Partners with CASA Solano, Child Abuse Prevention Council for Event

This morning, we gathered on the lawn in front of the department with partners CASA Solano and the Child Abuse Prevention Council, for Pinwheels for Prevention, an event held in acknowledgment of Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Speakers included Candy Pierce, Councilmember Doriss Panduro, Fairfield Police Chief Dan Marshall and Deputy District Attorney Matt Olsen.

After the formal portion of the event, attendees gathered to place pinwheels on the lawn.

“The Pinwheels for Prevention campaign provides a very simple but powerful reminder of the responsibility we all have to protect children from harm and to do all we can to promote healthy, happy childhoods,” said Candy Pierce, executive director of CASA Solano County. “Participating and displaying the pinwheels demonstrates an outward commitment to prevention in Solano County.”

“Each pinwheel signifies a child who sustained abuse and or neglect in the City of Fairfield,” shared Lilia Breaux, manager of the Domestic Violence Program within the Special Victims Unit (SVU) at Fairfield PD.

In 2023, there were a total of 2966 child maltreatment allegations for children ages 0-17 of those 295 were substantiated allegations, resulting in 111 children to be removed from their homes and family in Solano County.

Last year, our community lost 19 children-youth due to child maltreatment and other preventable violence against children. Please help spread the word - there’s no excuse for child abuse.

Since its inception in 2008, different agencies that serve children and families who are impacted by child maltreatment have been planting pinwheel gardens throughout the city of Fairfield.

This was CASA’s first time co-hosting with the department, CASA and CNW, Solano Child Abuse Prevention Council.
