Police Seek Public’s Help Identifying Burglary Suspect

Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé requests the public’s help in identifying the suspect pictured below, who broke into an apartment with his girlfriend and assaulted a tenant on April 6, 2024.

Police responded to the incident that occurred at approximately 6 a.m. in the 200 block of Ferry Street. The suspect and his girlfriend, later identified as Vanusa Pedras, 48, of Gillette, N.J., damaged the victim’s apartment door when they broke in and demanded that he pay rent. When the victim tried to call the police, the suspect grabbed his cell phone, threw it against the wall, and punched the victim in the chest. The suspect left with Pedras, who was arrested and charged with burglary for breaking into the apartment.

Director Fragé urges anyone with information about the identity of the suspect to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).
