INCIDENT: Motorcycle vs Van Fatal Traffic Crash
LOCATION: State Highway 18 and Quinnault Road, Apple Valley
DRIVER 1: Matthew Hicks (39), resident of Apple Valley
VEHICLE 2: Red 2006 Kawasaki Ninja
DRIVER 2: Brian Hume (36), resident of Apple Valley
VEHICLE 2: White 2016 Toyota Sienna
SUMMARY: On Saturday, April 20, 2024, at approximately 6:11 p.m., deputies from the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station, and rescue personnel from the Apple Valley Fire Department and American Medical Response, responded to a motorcycle versus van traffic crash that occurred on State Highway 18 and Quinnault Road, in the town of Apple Valley.
Through investigation, deputies determined a red Kawasaki Ninja was traveling in the eastbound #1 lane of State Highway 18, at the intersection with Quinnault Road. A white Toyota Sienna was traveling northbound on Quinnault Road making a left turn onto State Highway 18. The motorcyclist broadsided the van in the intersection. The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. All six occupants of the van were transported to local hospitals for medical treatment with one juvenile flown to a trauma center.
Investigators from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T) arrived and are conducting an investigation. State Highway 18 was closed down between the intersections of Central Road and Navajo Road for approximately three hours, while deputies processed the scene for evidence and interviewed witnesses.
