Planned Road Closure for Upcoming Event: State of the City Address on Sat April 27th - Thornton Ave Old Town 
On Saturday, April 27, 2024, the annual State of the City Address is being held in conjunction with the Old Town Streetscape Exhibition from the hours of 11 AM – 3 PM. Attendees will learn about Newark’s achievements, future plans, and discover the potential for Thornton Avenue and Old Town.
This event will occur on Thornton Avenue, between the intersections of Magnolia Street and Sycamore Street, requiring a road closure in both directions from 6 AM – 5 PM.
Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area or safely follow the detour signs to traverse around the closed roadway. Commercial trucks traveling in either direction on Thornton Avenue are advised to use either Cherry Street or Sycamore Street to connect with Central Avenue, as an alternate bypass route.
