Crime Blotter for the Week of April 14, 2024 – April 20, 2024

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of April 14, 2024 – April 20, 2024.        
 
April 14, 2024

  • Burglary (Residential):
2500 Block of Starcrest Drive. On April 14, 2024 between 2 PM and 6:52 PM, suspect(s) unknown, entered the location through an unlocked side window and ransacked the residence. The suspect(s) stole several firearms and a gun safe. The loss was approximately $5,000. No surveillance video is available.
 
  • Petty theft (Shoplifting):
1600 Mountain Avenue (Walmart). On April 14, 2024 at 11:30 AM, the suspects, an unknown male black adult and unknown female hispanic adult, were observed via surveillance entering the location and went directly to the electronics section. The suspects selected two Nintendo Switches and exited the location without attempting to purchase the items. The loss was approximately $450. Surveillance video is available.

April 16, 2024
  • Robbery (Strong Arm):
2315 Huntington Drive (CVS). On April 16, 2024 at 1:30 PM, the suspects, three female black adults in there 20’s, one wearing light blue medical scrubs, the second wearing a teal and black tie-dye hoodie with dark pants and the third wearing a grey hoodie and black pants, entered the location carrying large black canvas tote bags. The manager observed the three suspects concealing cosmetics into the bags and asked them to drop the merchandise and to leave the store, which they refused. The three suspects proceeded to walk towards the exit passing all manned registers and failing to purchase the items. The manager attempted to retrieve the stolen property, when the female black suspect wearing the light blue medical scrubs punched the victim in the face. The three suspects entered a black Honda Civic with a license plate of 8WSB060 and fled the area towards the 210 freeway on ramp. The loss was approximately $500. Surveillance video is available. 
 
  • Aggravated assault (Domestic Violence):
800 Block of Lewison Street. On April 16, 2024 at 1:30 AM, the suspect and victim were at the location arguing over relationship issues. The suspect became enraged and lunged towards the victim, jumped on top of the victim, and began to punch the victim in the upper torso. The suspect proceeded to place both hands around the victim’s neck causing the victim to have trouble breathing. Fearing for loss of consciousness, the victim bit the suspect on the finger causing the suspect to stop the attack. The victim was freed and called “911”. The suspect fled the location prior to law enforcement arrival. No surveillance video is available.
 
  • Grand Theft Auto:
900 Block of Highland Avenue. On April 16, 2024 between 12 AM and 6 AM, suspect(s) unknown stole the victim's parked vehicle, a white 2016 Hyundai Elantra. No surveillance video is available.
 
April 17, 2024
  • Petty theft (Shoplifting):
1322 Huntington Drive (Grocery Outlet). On April 17, 2024 at 7:50 PM, suspect unknown, a male white adult wearing a black hat, black shirt, and black pants, entered the location and walked directly to the meat aisle. The suspect selected a package of angus ribeye steak, a package of chicken, and concealed them in his pants. The suspect walked out of the location without attempting to purchase the items and fled the area in an unknown direction. The loss was approximately $22. Surveillance video is available.
 
April 18, 2024
  • Robbery (Carjacking):
500 Block of Larkhall Avenue. On April 18, 2024 at 5:30 PM, the victim was working as an Uber driver and was scheduled to pick up a client at the location by the name of Jasmine. As the victim arrived, a male black adult wearing a black hoodie, blue jeans, and a black face mask and a male hispanic adult wearing a black hoodie, blue jeans with a black backpack, entered the vehicle. The victim asked where Jasmine was at which point the male hispanic suspect pulled out a dark colored handgun from his backpack and ordered the victim to get out of the vehicle or he would shoot him. The victim, fearing for his life, exited the vehicle. The suspects fled the area westbound on Royal Oaks Drive and out of view. No surveillance video is available.
 
April 19, 2024
  • Burglary (Residential):
3400 Block of Brookridge Road. Between April 17, 2024 6 AM and April 19, 2024 9:48 PM, suspect(s) unknown entered the location by prying open the rear sliding glass door. The location did not appear to be ransacked and the victim was unsure if anything was stolen. No surveillance video is available.
 
  • Petty theft:
1400 Block of Highland Avenue. On April 19, 2024 between 12 AM and 8 AM, suspect(s) unknown entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle, a grey 2019 Toyota Camry, and stole a tote bag containing miscellaneous items and his work identification. The loss was approximately $320. No surveillance video is available.
 
April 20, 2024
  • Petty theft:
1600 Mountain Avenue (Walmart). On April 20, 2024 between 4 PM and 5 PM, suspect(s) unknown entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle, a blue 2002 Buick, and stole her purse that was left in plain view on the passenger seat. The loss was approximately $140. No surveillance video is available.
 
  • Petty theft (Shoplifting):
1322 Huntington Drive (Grocery Outlet). On April 20, 2024 at 4:53 PM, suspect unknown, a male hispanic adult wearing a black “Raiders” hat, grey shirt, and black shorts, entered the location and walked directly to the laundry detergent aisle. The suspect selected multiple boxes of detergent pods and placed them in a shopping basket. The suspect walked out of the location without attempting to purchase the items, entered a white four door sedan, and fled the area in an unknown direction. The loss was approximately $100. Surveillance video is available.
 
CRIME PREVENTION TIPS - PRINCIPLES OF CRIME PREVENTION    
  1. Target Hardening - Making your property harder for an offender to access.
    • Upgrading the locks on your doors, windows, sheds, and outbuildings.
    • Using secure passwords to prevent criminals from hacking your online accounts.
  2. Target Removal - Ensuring that potential crimes of opportunity are out of view.
    • Not leaving items in view through your windows- i.e. laptops, phones, keys, bags.
    • Putting your vehicle in the garage if you have one and not leaving valuables on display.
    • Being cautious about what you post online as it may be used to identify or locate you offline.
  3. Reducing the Means - Removing items that may help commit an offense.
    • Don’t leave items lying around that could be used to force entry into your vehicle or house.
    • Not leaving tools and ladders in plain view.
    • Trim back shrubbery hiding doors or windows.
  4. Reducing the Payoff - Reducing the profit the criminal can make from the offense.
    • Marking your property in such a way that others will not want to buy it from the thief.
    • Inscribing your initials on property in several locations.
    • Never buy property you believe or suspect to be stolen.
