Deputies Conduct Sex Registrant Compliance Operation in Yucaipa and Surrounding County Areas
DATE/TIME: April 20, 2024
INCIDENT: Penal Code Section 290 Compliance Check
LOCATION: City of Yucaipa and surrounding unincorporated county areas
SUMMARY: On April 20, 2024, deputies from the Yucaipa Sheriff Station conducted a Penal Code Section 290 Compliance Check. Under Penal Code 290, California law requires people convicted of certain sex crimes and sexually motivated crimes to register as sex offenders. This means registering with their local law enforcement agency annually within five days of their birthday and within five days of moving to a new residence. Compliance checks are utilized to confirm a registrant is complying with state law.
Deputies attempted to contact 118 registrants in Yucaipa and nine registrants in the surrounding unincorporated county area. Deputies contacted 94 registrants and found them to be in compliance. Deputies discovered one registrant had moved from his registered residence and may be in violation. Additional follow-up is needed to confirm any violation.
Yucaipa deputies will be conducting an additional 290 Compliance check in the future.
Anyone with information regarding an out of compliance 290 Registrant is urged to contact Deputy Perez of the Yucaipa Station at (909) 918-2305 or make a report with the Yucaipa Sheriff's Station.
