Cloquet, MN – April 26, 2024—The Cloquet Police Department is investigating a recent mail theft on April 8, 2024. On that date, the Post Office in Cloquet reported that their drop box outside the building was broken into, and the contents within the mailbox were stolen.

Upon further investigation, we have reason to believe that individuals involved in the mail theft may have attempted financial crimes in other areas of Minnesota. As such, we are collaborating closely with other law enforcement agencies to investigate this matter thoroughly.

The Moose Lake Police Department received a report of an attempted withdrawal from a local financial institution by someone using another's identity. If you recognize this person, you're asked to contact Moose Lake Chief Pattison at 218.485.1198 or email [email protected] or Detective Holshouser at Cloquet PD at 218.879.1247 or [email protected]. All individuals are innocent until proven guilty.

Tips can also be submitted via email at [email protected], private messages on our social media platforms, or texting the words "TIP CLOQUETPD" followed by your message to 888777.

We urge anyone using the mail drop box in Cloquet on or around April 8, 2024, to take additional security measures. These include locking or freezing credit reports, using credit monitoring and identity theft protection services, verifying that any mailed payments were received, and canceling checks with our local financial institution.

If you suspect you may have been a victim of this mail theft incident, we understand this can be a distressing experience. Please contact the Cloquet Police Department immediately to file a report. We ask that you come prepared with supporting documents to assist our investigation.
