DATE/TIME: Saturday, April 27, 2024 / 11:55 a.m.

INCIDENT: PC 245(a)(1) – Assault with a Deadly Weapon, PC 245(C) – Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Peace Officer, PC 273.5(a) – Corporal Injury to a Spouse or Cohabitant

LOCATION: 15900 block of Chehalis Road, Apple Valley

SUSPECT(S): Lance Sterling McGhee, 50-year-old male of Apple Valley

SUMMARY: On Saturday, April 27, 2024, San Bernardino Sheriff’s Dispatch received a call from a residence in the 15900 block of Chehalis Road. Information was received that a male at the residence was throwing knives at other residents and the subject wanted “suicide by cops.”

Deputies from the Apple Valley Police Department responded to the residence and the other residents were able to exit without incurring any harm. The suspect, later identified as Lance Sterling McGhee, exited the residence, threw a knife at a deputy, and ran back through the house into the backyard. Once in the backyard, McGhee armed himself with a metal bar and chain.

Deputies from the Hesperia Police Department, the Victorville Police Department and the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to the area to assist and set up a perimeter. Deputies were able to maintain a visual of McGhee while he was in the backyard. Deputies successfully deployed one less lethal bean-bag round and took McGhee into custody without further incident.

McGhee was checked by medical personnel prior to being booked at High Desert Detention Center for the above listed charges. McGhee is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
