Wilmington Police arrest two men on gun and drug charges:
Wilmington Police have arrested two men on gun and drug charges.
On April 24, at approximately 12:18 p.m., members of the Drug, Organized Crime, and Vice Division were in the area of West 2nd and North Franklin Streets, when they observed two male subjects in a motor vehicle engaged in drug-related activity. Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop in the 200 block of North Connell Street, where the front seat passenger fled from the vehicle on foot, and the vehicle fled the area. Following a brief foot pursuit, the front seat passenger – 18-year-old Hamza Carter was taken into custody without incident and found to be in possession of a loaded .45 caliber handgun, and 1.29 grams of crack cocaine. A short time later, the motor vehicle was located in the 2400 block of West 4th Street, where police initiated another motor vehicle stop. Police made contact with the driver – 44-year-old Leo Bey, who was taken into custody without incident. Police recovered a loaded .22 caliber handgun, and .1 grams of crack cocaine.
Carter has been charged with the following offenses:
- Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited – Two Counts
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
- Resisting Arrest
Bey has been charged with the following offenses in addition to traffic violations:
- Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited – Two Counts
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
- Possession of a Controlled Substance
