INCIDENT: Lethal Force Encounter & PC 664/187 – Attempted Murder
LOCATION: 15200 Block of Pocahontas Street, Apple Valley
SUSPECT(S): Thoren Rand, 71-years-old, Resident of Apple Valley
VICTIM(S): Confidential
SUMMARY:
On Monday, April 29, 2024, at 8:23 a.m., deputies from Apple Valley were dispatched to a residence in the 15200 block of Pocahontas Street, in Apple Valley, for the report of an assault that just occurred. When deputies arrived, the 69-year-old female victim exited the home with severe injuries and was followed by the suspect, Thoren Rand. Rand was armed with a large knife and a firearm. The deputy gave Rand numerous commands to drop the weapons, but he refused to comply. A lethal force encounter occurred, and Rand was struck by gunfire.
The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division – Homicide Detail also responded and assumed the investigation. Through investigation, it was learned Rand physically assaulted the victim and then shot her. She was transported to a hospital where she remains in stable condition.
Rand also remains hospitalized and is being held in the custody of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department on $1,000,000 bail.
